Description
In 1802, the tomb of a 4th-century teenage girl was discovered with the inscription “Peace be with thee, Philomena.” The young Philomena had refused the evil advances of Emperor Diocletian. He tried to kill her by anchor drowning, then by arrows, and finally succeeded by beheading. When her tomb was rediscovered, miracles abounded. Since then, many have come to know and love Philomena, often through miracles, for her heroic faith.
